Stepjan was approached and given a book - the Obscurus by The Worm years ago as a young man, it fully enveloped his parents, however, he was able to recover after a year of madness. The reasons of [[The Worm]] (a collective conscious organism from the [[The Great Beyond]]) are not to be trifled with by mortal minds. It decided that the book should be in mortal hands for better or for worse and so it is. Those who read from its pages go mad and fall into obscurity only seen by the cultists of Botholomag and other Mind Rended. Stepjan does not realize that his parents are still alive and thinks them dead, but they are around him all the time, drawn to their son who holds [[The Obscurus]] and their fate, unseen by those who cannot focus on the spaces between focus.
